Operational comparison
Voluntary surrender and field repossession are different assignments.
Both may return collateral to a secured lender, but they differ in contact, access, timing, location information, handoff planning, and field conditions.

Voluntary surrender coordination
A voluntary surrender generally begins with lender authorization and a cooperative contact who agrees to a location and handoff plan. The file still requires clear authority, collateral identification through the approved channel, access expectations, key information, and destination instructions.
Field repossession
Field recovery is an involuntary assignment performed under the client’s authorized instructions. Location work, access, current collateral condition, local restrictions, equipment fit, and escalation expectations may affect the operational plan.
What remains consistent
- The lender establishes authority and instructions.
- Protected assignment data moves through an approved channel.
- The collateral and general operating conditions must fit current capabilities.
- Recovery and condition information support the lender file.
- The next disposition step follows client direction.
