Frequently asked questions

Direct answers for automotive lending teams.

A concise guide to LRS coverage, lender setup, recovery documentation, and voluntary surrender coordination.

What does Lenders Recovery Service do?

Lenders Recovery Service provides vehicle repossession and automotive collateral recovery for lending institutions in the Kansas City region.

What types of lenders does LRS work with?

LRS works with banks, credit unions, automotive finance companies, loan-servicing organizations, and other secured lenders.

Does LRS work with title-loan companies and Buy Here Pay Here lenders?

LRS may review vehicle-repossession relationships with title-loan companies and Buy Here Pay Here (BHPH) lenders when the requesting business has a lawful security interest and authority to assign the work. Dealer-financed retail receivables are reviewed as vehicle-repossession assignments; dealer inventory securing a floor-plan facility follows the separate floor-plan recovery process. Coverage, collateral, documentation, and acceptance are confirmed for each relationship and assignment. Do not send protected information through the public form.

What area does LRS cover?

LRS serves lending institutions in the Kansas City region. Coverage is confirmed for each assignment before acceptance.

What documentation is provided after a recovery?

Recovery documentation can include vehicle-condition photographs and recovery information prepared for the lender file, based on the assignment and agreed process.

How does a lender submit a new assignment?

A new lender should first call or submit a general setup request. After the relationship and communication process are established, assignment information can be transmitted through the agreed channel.

Does LRS coordinate voluntary vehicle surrenders?

Yes. When appropriate, LRS can coordinate a voluntary surrender with the lender and the person in possession of the vehicle.

What information belongs in the public contact form?

Only general business contact information: representative name, institution, work email, phone number, and a general coverage need. Do not submit debtor, VIN, account, or recovery-location details.

Can a bank or credit union discuss onboarding before sending an assignment?

Yes. A lending institution can first confirm coverage, communication expectations, and the appropriate secure assignment channel without placing sensitive borrower or collateral information in the public form.

Does LRS guarantee a recovery time or recovery rate?

No public guarantee is made. Assignment conditions differ, so LRS reviews coverage and operational fit before discussing expectations with the lender.

How should a lender confirm a specific service location?

Call LRS at 816-533-3565 or send a general coverage request identifying the city or county only. Do not include a debtor name, VIN, account number, or exact recovery location.

Why are condition photographs useful?

Condition photographs help establish a visual record of the vehicle at recovery and support the documentation maintained in the lender file.

When is an assignment considered accepted?

An assignment is accepted only after LRS confirms coverage, collateral fit, and the appropriate protected-information channel. Sending a public business request does not accept an assignment.

Can LRS confirm a city before our institution completes setup?

Yes. Provide the city, county, and general asset class only. LRS can review general operational fit before protected assignment information is exchanged.

How are specialty assets reviewed?

Commercial vehicles, equipment, powersports, recreational units, impounded vehicles, fleets, and court-directed matters are reviewed for size, condition, access, equipment, storage, destination, and other file-specific needs before acceptance.

What should we say about a non-running or inaccessible unit?

Through the approved lender channel, identify the general condition, access limitations, key status, known damage, dimensions when relevant, and intended destination. Do not place those details in the public inquiry form if they could identify a person or exact location.

Does a coverage page mean LRS has an office in that city?

No. Coverage pages describe operating areas, not storefronts or local offices. Confirm the specific location before sending protected information.

How are fees established?

Pricing and any specialty requirements are reviewed under the applicable lender relationship and accepted scope. File-specific conditions can require separate review; public website copy is not a fee quote.

Can an institution cancel a request?

Contact LRS through the established lender channel as soon as circumstances change. Cancellation handling depends on the assignment status and applicable agreement.

Does LRS provide legal advice about repossession or replevin?

No. LRS provides operational recovery services for authorized clients. Lenders should rely on their own counsel for legal authority, court process, notices, and jurisdiction-specific requirements.

Can borrowers or vehicle owners use the lender form?

The public lender form is designed for banks, credit unions, finance companies, servicers, forwarders, and other authorized business representatives. Vehicle owners should contact their lender about their account or surrender instructions.

Can LRS coordinate an impound-lot release?

LRS can review lender-authorized impound recovery needs, including general release, documentation, payment, and transport requirements. Acceptance depends on the facility and file-specific facts.

How do new lenders request current credentials?

Choose “Request credentials” in the business form. LRS will confirm which current documents apply to the institution’s vendor-review requirements rather than presenting expired or inapplicable credentials publicly.

What happens after the lender form is submitted?

LRS reviews the institution, request type, and general information, then contacts the representative using the preferred reply method to explain the next step. The confirmation is not assignment acceptance.
